Which Fujifilm Cameras Have Film Simulations

All of them — the real question is how many, and which ones.

Short answer

Every Fujifilm digital camera has film simulations — the count runs from ten to twenty across the 51 bodies we list. PROVIA, Velvia, ASTIA and Sepia are on all of them. REALA ACE is on nine, Nostalgic Neg. on thirteen, Classic Negative on twenty-one. Simulations cannot be added by firmware.

Searching for a Fujifilm camera with film simulations is searching for a Fujifilm camera: they all have them. What actually varies is how many, and whether the specific look you want is among them — which is worth checking before you spend money, because no firmware update will add one later.

The short answer: all of them

Every Fujifilm digital camera has film simulations. There is no model in the line that lacks them, and there has not been since the original FinePix X100 in 2011.

So the question worth asking is not whether a camera has them but how many, because that is what separates a 2014 body from a 2025 one. Across the 51 cameras we list, the count runs from ten to twenty.

The four that are on every camera

PROVIA/Standard, Velvia/VIVID, ASTIA/Soft and Sepia are on all 51 bodies, from the FinePix X100 to the newest X-T.

If you buy any Fujifilm camera at all, second-hand and ancient included, you get those four. Velvia for saturated landscape colour, ASTIA for softer skin, PROVIA as the neutral baseline, and Sepia because it has always been there.

How the count rises by sensor generation

X-Trans V (six cameras) — 19 or 20 simulations.

X-Trans IV (eleven cameras) — 16 to 20, the widest spread of any generation.

GFX (eight cameras) — 15 to 20.

X-Trans III (six cameras) — 15 or 16.

X-Trans II (seven cameras) — 10 or 11.

X-Trans I (three cameras), Bayer (eight) and EXR (one) — 10 or 11.

The jump that matters is from X-Trans II to III: eleven to sixteen. That is where ACROS arrives, and ACROS is the reason a lot of people stop looking at older bodies.

Which cameras have all twenty

Eight bodies carry the complete set: X100VI, X-T50, X-E5, X-M5 and four others.

The X-M5 is the interesting one. It uses an X-Trans IV sensor, an older generation, yet it ships with all twenty — which shows the simulation list tracks the processor and the firmware it launched with, not the sensor alone.

Just below, the X-H2, X-H2S, X-S20 and X-T5 have nineteen.

REALA ACE: only nine cameras

The newest colour profile is the rarest. REALA ACE is on nine of the 51 bodies.

If it is the reason you are buying, check the individual camera page before ordering — it is not on every current model, and it is on no older one.

Nostalgic Neg. and Classic Negative

Nostalgic Neg. is on thirteen cameras, Classic Negative on twenty-one, and ETERNA Bleach Bypass on eighteen.

Classic Negative is the one people most often assume is everywhere. It is not: it arrived with X-Trans IV, so anything older does without it. ETERNA is on twenty-five, and the ACROS family on thirty-two.

The cheapest way to get them

We do not quote prices, because they move weekly and the used market moves faster. But the structure of the answer is stable.

For the four basics, any body will do, including a decade-old X-T1 or X100S. For ACROS, you need X-Trans III or newer. For Classic Negative, X-Trans IV or newer. For REALA ACE, one of the nine.

That makes X-Trans III the value floor for most people and X-Trans IV the sensible one: sixteen to twenty simulations, and a large second-hand supply.

The odd one out: X half

The X half has thirteen, on a 1-inch sensor rather than an X-Trans. It sits outside the generational pattern entirely, because it is a different kind of camera aimed at a different buyer.

You cannot add them by firmware

This is the part that costs people money. A camera that shipped without a simulation will not gain it. Firmware updates fix bugs, improve autofocus and occasionally add features, but they do not add colour profiles to bodies that were not built with them.

What you can do is get closer with a recipe: a simulation the camera does have, plus shifts to white balance, tone and colour, saved as a custom setting. That is not the same as having the profile, and anyone telling you a recipe turns Classic Chrome into REALA ACE is overselling it.

Where to look next

Every camera page here lists the exact simulations that body has. Start from the camera list if you are choosing hardware, or the simulation guide if you want to know what each look does.

If you already own the camera, the useful next step is saving a recipe so you are not re-entering settings every time.

Common questions

Which Fujifilm cameras have film simulations?

All of them. Every Fujifilm digital camera has at least ten, and PROVIA, Velvia, ASTIA and Sepia are on all 51 bodies we list. The newest cameras have twenty.

What is the cheapest Fujifilm camera with film simulations?

Any of them, if you only need the basics — even a decade-old X-T1 has eleven. For ACROS you need X-Trans III or newer; for Classic Negative, X-Trans IV or newer.

Which cameras have REALA ACE?

Nine of the 51 cameras we list. It is the newest colour profile and the rarest, so check the specific camera page before buying if it is the reason you want that body.

Can I add film simulations with a firmware update?

No. A camera that shipped without a simulation will not gain it. You can get closer with a recipe built on a simulation the camera does have, but that is not the same profile.

How many film simulations does the X100VI have?

All twenty. It is one of eight bodies with the complete set, alongside the X-T50, X-E5 and X-M5 among others.
