Short answer
The GFX100 was the first mirrorless camera with a 102MP sensor and the first medium format camera with in-body stabilisation. It weighs 1,320g with an integrated vertical grip and launched at $10,000.
The GFX100 was a statement. A hundred megapixels, phase-detect autofocus across the whole medium format sensor, stabilisation nobody thought was possible at this size, and a body shaped like a professional sports camera.

What it did first
Phase-detect autofocus across a medium format sensor, which made the format usable for anything other than static subjects. In-body stabilisation on a sensor this large, which had never been done.
The integrated vertical grip was not optional, which is why it weighs 1,320 grams before you attach a lens.
Why nobody buys one now
The GFX100S in 2021 offered the same sensor and a better stabiliser in a 900-gram body for $4,000 less. There is no scenario where the original is the better purchase today except a very low used price.
It shipped with 16 film simulations. Firmware updates extended what the camera could do over its life, so check the version on any used body.

Verdict
