Monochrome+Ye (yellow filter)

The everyday filter on the harder black and white.

Short answer

Monochrome+Ye adds a digital yellow filter to Fujifilm’s standard black and white. Blue skies darken modestly, clouds separate, and skin stays natural. It is the most useful everyday version of Monochrome.

If you are shooting Monochrome rather than ACROS, you are usually after a firmer picture. The yellow filter is the version of that which still behaves outdoors, because it stops bright skies from going blank.

What it changes

Blue drops about a stop of tonal value. On Monochrome’s harder curve that reads as more decisive than the same filter on ACROS: skies get genuinely dark rather than merely deeper.

Skin and warm subjects are essentially untouched, which is why this combination stays usable on people even though the base simulation is contrasty.

When to use it

Outdoor black and white on cameras without ACROS. Graphic architecture with sky in the frame. Bright coastal and mountain light where a plain black and white would render the sky as paper.
