The first X-T, and the biggest viewfinder Fujifilm had ever built.
Short answer
The X-T1 was Fujifilm’s first SLR-shaped X camera: 16.3MP X-Trans II, weather sealing, and a 0.77× viewfinder that was the largest in any mirrorless camera at the time. It has 11 film simulations including Classic Chrome, added by firmware.
Before the X-T1, Fujifilm’s X cameras were rangefinder-shaped. The X-T1 put the viewfinder in the middle, added dials for everything and sealed the body, and it created the line that has been Fujifilm’s best seller ever since.

That viewfinder
0.77× magnification was extraordinary in 2014 and is still large by current standards. Looking through an X-T1 after a modern entry-level camera is a genuine surprise.
The panel resolution is 2.36 million dots, which is visibly coarse next to a 3.69M-dot finder, but the sheer size compensates more than the numbers suggest.
The firmware that kept it alive
Fujifilm gave the X-T1 major firmware updates for years, including Classic Chrome and a rewritten autofocus system. It is the clearest example of the company’s habit of improving cameras after sale.
Even so, this is a 2014 camera. Autofocus is slow, video is 1080p, and 16 megapixels leaves no cropping room.

Verdict
The X-T1 is a lovely object and a limited tool. Buy it for the viewfinder and the dials, not for the specifications.

Common questions
Does the X-T1 have Classic Chrome?
Yes, added in firmware version 4.0. It does not have ACROS, which needs the later processor.
Is it still weather sealed after a decade?
The seals age. Assume a decade-old body is water resistant rather than waterproof, and do not test it in heavy rain.
